What is TAP?
The Tertiary Alcohol Project is the only project of its kind in a Western Australian university setting. It is a harm reduction project, with a number of unique, interactive strategies designed to reduce risk-taking behaviour associated with excessive alcohol consumption by university students. Why the student population? - High prevalence of alcohol use among tertiary students
- Risky drinking patterns
- Increased likelihood of drinking and driving
- Negative social effects of alcohol use
- Alcohol is implicated in more than 40% of academic problems 1.
- On average, students who drink the most, earn the lowest grades 1.
- Alcohol use is commonly associated with students missing classes, doing poorly on tests or assignments & getting behind in university work 2.
The Tertiary Alcohol Project was developed and implemented with Healthway funding and is a project run by the UWA Medical Centre. Healthway is the Western Australian Health Promotion Foundation
